About

Tang Ming is a Boya Distinguished Professor at the School of Earth and Space Sciences, Peking University, and a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Professor Tang is mainly engaged in research on continental evolution and formation of magma. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in geochemistry from Nanjing University in 2011 and a doctoral degree in geology from the University of Maryland in 2016. He began to work in Peking University in 2019. Professor Tang has received several honors, such as the Gao Shan Young Scientist Award, the Hisashi Kuno Award of AGU (American Geophysical Union), and the Xplorer Prize.

  • Through this course series, The Volcanoes, you will find that some volcanoes spout magma that’s hard as rock, while some others spout no magma, and that volcanoes are not always terrible disasters to us.
  • From a unique perspective, this course series will lead you to re-understand volcanoes and get to know the theory of volcanic eruption, the types of eruption, the resources brought about by volcanoes, the impact of volcanoes on the climate of the Earth, etc. Our journey with this course series will not stop at the Earth, we will also be visiting the moon, the Venus, the Mars, and even the icy worlds of the outer solar system.
  • In conclusion, we hope that through this course series, you can gain more knowledge about volcanoes and more importantly, feel the world of stars and seas depicted in earth and planetary sciences.
